Selecting Plants for that Special Place

When planning your upcoming spring landscape, a helpful hint is to develop a list of potential plants to put in specific areas. It would be wonderful to put any type of plant anywhere in your garden; however, factors such as soil type, light, and air quality greatly affect the growth of a plant. The following list is a valuable tool when picking plants.

Tolerant of Drought Conditions: Juniper, Pines, Barberry, Cotoneaster, Shrub Rose, Amur Maple, Barr Oak, Pin Oak, Red Oak, White Oak

Tolerant of Moist Conditions: Barberry, Redtwig and Yellowtwig Dogwood, Serviceberry, River Birch, American Linden, Amur Maple, Red Maple

Tolerant of Clay Soil: Arborvitae, Yews, Barberry, Dogwood, Euonymus, Forsythia, Spiraea, River Birch, Hawthorn, Red Maple
